The Challenge

An agribusiness cooperative recently merged its crop inputs division with another supplier it had acquired. In order to streamline the merged operations and manage the distribution fleet from two new warehouse facilities, the cooperative chose Oracle OTM (Oracle Transportation Management) Cloud and invited Accelalpha to implement the solution for them.

This customer uses their own fleet of trucks for distribution and two significant problems for them were a lack of visibility into the status or capacity of its fleet across its sites, and the manual nature of its fleet and driver management.

Our Approach

The organization knew of Accelalpha's reputation for high-quality Oracle application implementations, and after hearing about Accelalpha directly from Oracle, they selected Accelalpha for this implementation. Accelalpha has implemented Oracle OTM Fleet Management at two sites, with a phased rollout planned for the rest of the newly merged sites in the coming weeks.

To resolve the organization's problems, Accelalpha implemented Oracle OTM Fleet Management to maximize its fleet's utilization, automate processes, and manage by exception more effectively. Accelalpha created a unique solution that allows for switching the carrier from an internal truck to a third-party carrier when there is no internal fleet capacity.

 

The Results

The implementation maximizes the organization's fleet capacity while minimizing its dependency on common carriers, resulting in higher utilization of its own fleet and prioritization of its trucks over those of other carriers. Oracle Fleet Management provides the cooperative complete visibility into its fleet and drivers from all its site locations and the ability to assign them efficiently to outbound shipments. The organization can now maintain its drivers' service hours through the system with specific features, including driver assignment.

The cooperative can further optimize shipments by consolidating orders from different sites and business units into a single load. It can now leverage Fleet Aware Planning which gives visibility into available fleet capacity during the planning process. Oracle OTM Cloud previously planned shipments based on the cost of the carrier. With the introduction of Fleet Management enabled with Fleet Aware Planning, Oracle OTM can now automatically assign orders to its fleet, check daily capacity, and outsource orders to third-party carriers only when there is no availability in its own fleet.
